Visishtadvaitasiddhi ntroduction 1. Visishtadvaita The sage Uddalaka, had a son whose name was Svetaketu. Since the moment Svetakctu vas born Uddalaka had the great ambition to initiate him as early as possible and make him a great scholar well. versed in all sastras and vidyas. But he was very keenly disappointed. Svetaketu vas very haughty boy. He never cared for learnirg. He always disobeyed ]is father. Whenever he thought his father would •catch him he ran to his grandfather and fell into his lap which was always ready to receive and entertain him. His grand-father,Aruna, was sofond of him that he took all interest in keeping him pleased rather than In his learning. Uddalaka could not chide or chastise the boy in the presence of his esteemed father. Svetaketu grew a toy of twelve. His father was impatient and once finding him alone said-Boy, learn Vedas. None born in our family remains with out learning like a psodo-Brahman. * These words of his father hurt Svetaketu very deeply and severely. That very moment he left home and approaching a guru studied all the Vedas and the ancillary sustras under him.
