Kriyāpāda 117 garlands. Other auspicious things like a potful of water, lamp, grains etc., are to be arrnged in their proper place. The rites include a sacrifice for the destruction of eveil spirits and Vāstuhoma -a rite to propitiate the lord of the plot. The subjects dealt with are hinted at as follows: प्रासादशान्त्यर्थकपीह शुद्धय रक्षोदृनहोमोऽपि च वास्तुहोमः ।

लिङ्गप्रतिष्ठाविधिपूर्वकाले

कर्तव्य इत्यत्र यथावदुक्तः ।। (45)

In this section the author deals with the rites in connection with the installation and other accessories based on Saivāgama texts.

इति प्रतिष्ठाविधिमण्डपादिकं सकारकं चाकरशोधनं तथा। यथावदुक्त च जलाधिवासनं विचार्य नैकाः शिवतन्त्रपद्धती:॥

The author states that technically there are five types of instaltations. Fixing of the idol on the base with cement like objects is one kind. Refixing of the idols in connection with the repair of the temple is another. The author states :

लिङ्गानां निष्कलादीनां प्रतिष्ठा पञ्चधा स्मृता ।

प्रतिष्ठा स्थापनां तद्वत् स्थितस्थापनमित्यपि ।।

उत्थापनास्थापने च पृथक् तल्लक्ष्म कथ्यते ॥ The auspicious time for the installation is to be found out in consultation with astrologers. The locality of the temple as well as the shrine are to be decorated. Materials for worship are to be purified ceremonially. Diagrams of Tantric significance are to be drawn. Hymns are to be recited. After the installation the god is to be propitiated. (46) After the installation the idols are to be ceremonially bathed. Tattvavidyasathe consecretion of the divine power on the idols is the next item. Many potfuls of sanctified water are to be used for the bathing ceremony. Waters filled in pots are to be conceived as taken from holy rivers like Gangā, Yamunā, Narmada, Sarasvati, Gomati, Sindhu, Sarayu, Godavari, Kaveri,
