Sāmānyapāda 29 Now the author deals with Svarādhikāra —the section for vowels used in mantras. They are produced from Sakti which becomes Bindu, Nada and Rava. There are four stages for Bindu which are given in the reverse order as Vaikhari, Madhyamā, Paśyantī and Sūksmā, the last mentioned being produced from Kundalinī. From Saktibija sixteen vowels are produced which are called Kalās. इत्थं षोडशधोत्पन्नाः स्वराख्या: शक्तिबीजत: । शक्त्यङ्गत्वात् कलास्ते स्युरमृतांशुकलात्मका: ॥ Now the section for consonants is enunciated and they are enumerated as fifty. इत्थं पञ्चाशदुत्पन्ना वर्णा शक्तिप्रभेदतः । कादयः पञ्चविशार्णा यादयः शादयस्तथा ॥ The next section is called Sanketa dealing with some technical terms. According to the author everything in the universe is conceived in alphabets. ब्रह्मादिस्तम्बपर्यन्तं मातृकायां व्यवस्थितम् ।। Fifty consonants represent fifty forms of Rudra, Pranava is Siva; the alphabet ‘ka' is Brahman; Aksaras represent numbers when technically used; the names of the metres are many; tattvas are thirtysix etc. The author concludes the first Patala stating that Pranava is like the seed of a big tree, from which the whole unive- rse springs up. शब्दब्रह्म यदेकमक्षरमजं चैतन्यमात्र यतो, विश्वोत्पत्तिविनाशपालनविधौ नित्योत्थिता मूर्तयः । यस्मादक्षरविग्रहा भगवती जाता स्वयं मातृका, तच्छाक्तं प्रणवाख्यबीजमखिलं न्यग्रोधबीजं विदुः ॥ (2) The second patala enumerates several concepts which are common to works on Tantra. There are sections, for the apprecia- tion of the nature of Rudras, Rudraśakti; Visnumürtis Vişnuśaktis and herbs, each of them numbering fifty. Then follows the enume- ration of thirty six kalās, sixteen Pranavakalās, the places of Lipinyāsa, Anka and Suddhalipis.
