In the stanza, “श्रीमल्लिनाथगणिनाथ सदारितेन पृष्टः समस्तविदसौ निजगार तरवम् ।" (P. 73). it is said that the revered teacher Munisuvrata explained the Tattva to Mallinātha and this statement is in obvious con- tradiction to the statements of Mrs. Sinclair Stevenson M A., Sc. D and Jagmandar Lal Jaini M. A. The former ob- serves :- "The nineteenth Tirthankar (Mallinatha) is the most interesting of all ........." (vide pave 56, The Heart of Jainism), and the latter also mentions Mallina tha as the 19th and Munisuvrata as the 20th Tīrtharkaras (vide table attached after page 6,"Outlines of Jainisın"). Thus both of them consider Mallinatha to be the 19th Acārya and the predecessor of Munisuvratit. If the Malli- natha of our Arhaddása who is (lesirous of receiving in- struction at the hands of Munisuventa, the cxponent of Tattva, is the same as the Mallinatha of the almove incutioned scholars, th he could only have been a contemporary an! not the predecessor. A palm leaf manuscript belonging to the Raja of Chirak- kalanl n truriseript belonging to the Adlyar Library, Madras, unve been utilized for the publication of this work and wo express our gratitude to the owners of these manu- scripts for their kindness in placing them at our dispos:il.
