अथ एकोन्वशः सर्गः

अपमन्युस्ततो वाक्यं पौलस्त्यो राममुक्तवान् ।
‘‘अशोच्योऽपि व्रजन्नस्तं सनाभिर्धनुयास्न किम् ॥ १ ॥

तं नो देवा विधेयासुर्येन रावणवद वयम् ।
सपत्नांश्चाऽधिजीयास्म संग्रामे च मृषीमहि ॥ २ ॥

क्रियेरंश्च वशास्येन यथाऽन्येनाऽपि नः कुले ।
बेवद्रपञ्चो नराहारा न्यञ्चश्च द्विषतां गणाः ॥ ३ ॥

स एव धारयेत् प्राणानीदृशे बन्धुविप्लवे ।
भवेदाश्वसको यस्य सुहृच्छक्तो भवादृशः ॥ ४ ॥

NOW CANTO XIX

 1. Thereafter Vibhisana, whose grief had subsided, addressed Rama (these) words : Might a couterine brother, though not worth lamenting, not cause grief, (while) reaching his end ?

 2. May the gods arrange that, for us, by which we, like Ravana, may vanquish enemies and die in battle.

 3. May someone else in our family, like Ravana, make the demons wage war with the gods and render the hosts of gods lowly.

 4. ‘‘He alone would sustain (his) life-breaths in such a ruin of (his) kinsmen, who has a capable friend like your honour for his comforter.
