it is clear that he has taken great care to make the reading of his Mathematical work pleasant to children by interesting examples which may attract them to its study and remove the scare which haunts the brain of juvenile beginners. Nevertheless there are problems which challenge the most powerful brain. It is not an exaggeration to say that—

भस्करीयगिरं सारं भास्करो वा सरस्वती ।
चतुर्मुखोऽथवा वेत्ति विदुर्नान्ये तु भादृशाः ॥

I would not discharge my duties faithfully if I were not to thank most cordially my friend Pandit Gangadhara Misra, Professor, Vaidya Natha Vidyalaya, Deoghar, for rendering me great help in reding some protions of its proof sheets and in offering valuable suggestions. I would deem my-self amply rewarded if this book proves to be of some help to the reader. I crave the indulgence of the learned readers for any mistake of omission or commission, which, if communicated to the undersigned, would be very gladly acknowledged and rectified in the next edition.
