It is clear 'only Cne in the previous statement indicates contrast with many ' in the succceding onc. After creaton it became many. But before it, It was only one. So the plurality which pertains to it durIng the creatin period is excluded by this only one at irst i.e. before creation, not many as after creation Now what does *without a second mean ? creation requires not only the material cause but as an agent It has been suid that sat. the Existent was the mate rial of whi h the world is made. Vas there as an Agent apart from Sat, who, using Sat as the material created the world ? NoSat itself was the creator. It was the creator as wel as the material. This we know from the subsequent statement : It cre- ated fire: . So previously there was not an agent separate from sat. Therefore only sat without a second was there before creation. 'Only one ex• cludes all created things and beings. Advitiyam' ” ex cludes a being equal to Sat as the creator. It say ' implies that sit was an intelligent being . After its will to become many and to be born what did it do? It created fire. To be consistent with ‘I shall become many. I shall be born he might have said
