156 NOTES नन्दं ब्रह्म । सत्यं ज्ञानमनन्तं ब्रह्म । स एवमेव पुरुषो ब्रह्म । सर्व खल्विदं ब्रह्म । एकमेवाद्वितीयम्। The same list is given in the Mahavakyarthadarpana (Burnell's Catalogue, p. 94); but as printed in the Catalogue, the twelve are made up by trisecting No. 5 (Tait. Upanisad 2. 8. 1), and uniting Nos. 6 and 7 (Aitareya 5. 3, and Brihadara nyaka 3. 9. 28)! I have also a copy of a Mahavakya vivrana printed in the Jagadis'vara Press, Bombay, in 1883; but it is a totally different work from that re ferred to above, and consists of a lengthy exposition of four only of the great sentences. See also a long note on page 92-94 of my Manual of Hindu Panthcism, and Vivaranaprameya sangraha, p. 229. वाक्यार्थ is used here and no subsequent pages as a synonym of वाच्यार्थ Page 35. ‘संसर्गो वा &c." This verse of the Pachadasi, and six other in the immediate context, are found also in the Vakyavritti, a work which Dr. Hall positively, and D.r Burnell doubtfully, attributes to Sankara. My
