NOTES 165 Page 71. ‘नित्यानामक्रिया &c. ” The greater part of the immediate context is taken bodily ironm Anandagiri on Taittiriya-bhasya, and on Tait. bhasyavartika i 21, 22. The quotation “विचिकित्सञ्छ्रोत्रियः” is from the former , Source. , Page 78. पञ्चमहायज्ञादि. See Manu , iii. 69–71, where they are enumerated ; also Satapath 11. 5. 6. Line 11. उपरागस्नानादि. See Vechaspatyam (s. V. उपराग) where there is an extract from Purascharana chandrika, commencing thus_ “चन्द्रसूर्यपरागे च स्नात्वा commencing thus:- प्रयतमानसः। स्पर्शादिमोक्षपर्यन्तं जपेन्मन्त्रं समाहितः” ॥ वाजिनां &c. This is a name of the followers of the White Yajur-Veda. A more common title is वाजसनेयिनः the followers of वाजसनेय a name given to Yइjnyavalkya, a disciple of the sun (वाजसनि ). The etymology of this last word is said to be “वाजस्य अन्नस्य सनिदानं येन, but that is probably fanciful. For another of the same class see Visnu Purana 8. 5. 25-29. The verse is cited in full on page 286 of Sridhara’s Com. on Prasas tapada's Vaisesikabhasya, and the second line stands thus ‘ज्ञानं च विमलीकुर्वन्नभ्यासेन च पाचयेत् ”। For the thought immediately preceding the quotation, see Brahmasutrabhasya 4. 1. 18. . खादिरदिवत्संयोगपृथक्त्व°। See Jaimini 4. 3.5and Bhasya thereon. The two-fold use of Khadira, for sacrificial posts and as medicine &c., is mentioned in Brahma- sutrabhasya 3. 4, 33, as follows :-‘यथैकस्यापि खादिरस्य नित्येन संयोगेन क्रत्वर्थत्वं अनित्येन संयोगेन पुरुषार्थत्वं तद्वत्”। See Anandagiri on this, in Anandas'rama edition.
