LIFE OF SRI AMARACANDRA SŪRI From the 13th prabandha of Prabandhu_dos'a of S'ri Rajas'ekhara Suri, we learn that our author was a pupil of Sri Jinadatta Sūri, the famous author of 'Vivekavilāsa and be. longed to the genealogy of the well-kporn S'ri Jivadeva Sūri. Once upon a time he received the charm called "Siddha. sarasvata from Arisitiha, a devotee of his guy. He recited this mantra for 21 days by taking his station in a lonely corner of the big mansion of Padma, the minister, For all thesc days, he practised the penaoce kno10 aş rīcīmla. Consequently, the goddess of Learaing came to him and graced him with the tito boons: (1) to become a perfect poet and (2) to become an object of hozow to al rulers. Later on, cut other composed Kavis'itsa (instraction or discipline for poets) also known as Kavyn-Kalpalati, Chandoratūvali, Suktūvali, Kalakalapı, Balabharata and Padmananda mahakarya. Thus it seems that Rajas'ekbara Säri was not aware of or did not attach much importance to his other works viz., Alankāraprobodha and Syadıs'abdasamuccaya, the same remark holds good in the case of the work known as Carruins'atainoudrasanksi carilant, if it is not included by him in Padminanda mahakarya. 1 Thu Tas published by Luzec & Co., London 10 1923 4.
