“Thus ends the Siddhanta-darpap4 by Nilakantha of the Gargya-gotra, (resident) of Keralasad-grama " This leaves 10 doubt about the name of the author, his descent and his provemance . This is reinforced by the words of the scribe Sarikara of one of the Text manuscripts which reads as follows (see p५32, below) : However, the only manuscript of the commentary available to us and which forms the basis of the present edition thereof, is unfortunately, incomplete, with its beginning and end lost and with no specific mention of its authorship anywhere in it. But, besides the close similarity of the style and diction of the commentary of the Slddhanta-darp00 with that of Nilakantha's Aryabharya-Blasya, there are ample circum stantial evidences to identify its author as Nilakantha himself । In his works Nilakantha often refers to his teacher Damodara (on him see below, pp. xwi-xix) and guotes him. C. the passages : 1. The third of the above passages occurs in identical strain in the Commentary of the Siddlla ta-da7a177 also, pointing to the identity of the authorship of the two commentaries : C. (See below, p. 30). 2. 3.
