I have duly received your letter of 26h ult ( e. November 1888) concerning the loan of the Jammu Msof the Rekha. gapita which you desire to collate. Your name and work are well known to me and it would be a pleasure to me to assist you in the scientific task you have undertaken in bhe place of the late Mr. Dhruva. The Raghunatha temple Library of H. H. bhe Maharjof Jammu is not under my control, bhough the cataloguing of its Sanskrit Mes. has been prepared and published by me (Bombay 1894). I am not authorized to arrange for the loan of Mass. outside Jammu, though I myself am allowed to use works from the collection which was first arranged and cata- logued by me at Lahore. Certain Draft Rules regulating the loan of Mse, which were proposed with a view to facilitating access to the ibrary are still under consideration by the Durbar. I do not know whether and when they will be adopted. In the meantime I would recommend only two courses. You might ask the Director of Public Instruction, Bombay, to apply officially for the loan of the Msbhrough bhe Resident in Kashmir, Sialkotb. In this way alone bhere would be a chance of the Msbeing made available for your direct use. I hen adopted the course proposed in this letter, and the Hon. Mr. B. Giles M. A., Director of Public Instruction, was kind enough to apply to the Assistant Resident, Kashmir, for the loan of the Ms The Assistant Resident forwarded bhe correspondence to thhe Vice-President, Kashmir State Council, and the reply from him was bhat His Eighness expressed his inability to forward the original manuscript, but bhad a thrue copy could be furnished on payment of the pages of the copyist.
