Love thus casts off self-love and becomes but another form of the love of the Yogin for the universe with which he feels his kinship (Ïśā Up. 6)-but another means of realizing unity by break- ing through the bonds of selfishness. It is love in this highest sense that we find in Kālidāsa and to him belongs the credit of having given the best poetic expression to this ancient Hindu ideal of love and life.
